Each year I start out with New Years resolutions. Each year I break them all and give up within the first couple weeks. How can I start over and stay with it this year?
Happy New Year,
Starting over again
Dear Starting over,
You are not alone. Many people have given up on New Years resolutions, simply because they never seem to work. I believe they don’t work because they are developed with an inadequate motivator. It’s a New Year, great but so what?
To succeed at your resolutions, “Seek first the Kingdom of God”. If you are changing your behavior to honor God then you will have a meaningful internal motivation and the ultimate in accountability.
1. Write down the behavior you would like to change
2. Find and write down scripture that support your motivation.
3. Pray for strength, guidance and endurance.
4. Forgive yourself and keep trying. Regardless of how many times you mess up make a commitment to keep on keeping on! Most of us do not change overnight. It is a continual effort in the right direction that produces success.
To succeed in your New Years resolution this year, let God work on your heart and He will show up in your behavior. The easiest way to let God work is by reading His word.
Mathew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Philippians 3:14 “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
Be fit, be blessed and Happy New Year!!!
