Fit Bit  (If it makes you happy?)

Currently I am up at the Lake house.  I get to spend time here do to the generosity of a dear friend (he bought our family cabin).  I grew up here.  I love it here.  I love the memories I have here.  I miss the activity that used to be here.  I miss the family that used to be here.  It’s cold here today and my friends have all left for the season. I feel a bit empty.   The song that keeps coming to my mind is, “If It Makes You Happy” by Cheryl Crow. 

A long time ago, one of my friends was going through counseling. His counselor asked him if he was happy in his marriage.  She told him to do “what makes him happy”.  That is some messed up advise!!!  He went on to get a divorce and has been chasing happiness ever since.

In Cheryl Crows song she sings, “If it makes you happy, it can’t be that bad.  If it makes you happy, then why are you so sad?”

I love the saying, “The secret to happiness is not having what you want it’s wanting what you have.”   Bottom line happiness is fleeting.  It’s a feeling that can come and go depending on the weather, coffee, chocolate and other peoples actions or lack there of.  Joy, that’s where it at!!  Joy comes from the Lord.  I feel His joy daily when I remember He loves me.  His love for me inspires me to love Him back.  I do this by grounding myself in His word and doing my best to walk the walk, even when it doesn’t feel happy.  Part of living in the joy of the Lord is doing His work.  Work isn’t fleeting happiness, but in it, I feel His joy.  Here at the lake, by myself it doesn't feel like I am doing His work.

Mainly His joy is a free gift; through the work He did on the Cross-for you and me.  I am sure that it wasn’t a happy thing He did on the cross.  Yet, because of it, we can all have ever lasting joy.   Its not our work but His completed work that brings us joy.

Today, be happy!  Accept the Joy he died to give you.  Be inspired to muster up the courage to do what’s right, if it makes you happy or not.  Live in His joy. 

John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;  I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

Ephesians 4:29  Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”


I am a caregiver for my mother.   I love my mom.  I want to help her have a good life. She is aging and unable to manage her own life.  The problem I have is, she wears me out.  She has alcohol-induced dementia, yet doesn’t recognize that alcohol has destroyed her life.  She protects her “one drink” with everything she has.  She fights me on many things and her words are continually negative.  I am trying to be a loving daughter and provide for her.  Yet, I am starting to feel like it’s too exhausting.  I pray, “Lord, let me not weary in well doing.”  Mainly, when I am with her, it’s her words that bring me down.  She continually states how much she hates it here and how miserable she is.  Her negativity, is life sucking.  I pray that the Lord will fill her with His Holy Spirit and she will radiate the fruits of His Spirit.  So far, this isn’t happening.

I wonder why it is, that some people get the fruits of the Spirit and others, simply don’t.

What I know; if we speak life it helps those around us as well as ourselves.  We all have things to complain about.  Complaining doesn’t make things better.  It only makes things worse.  Today, regardless of what happens, focus on what’s right.  We all also have something good to think of too. Think about how much Jesus loves you, that’s enough!!

Fit Bit ( New Marriage)

Fit Bit (New Marriage!!)
I am so excited to announce the marriage of my oldest son Ryan to his Beautiful New Bride Erin!!

I remember my son, before he met Erin.  He was dating, He said, “ Mom I am just not meeting anyone, my friends say I am too picky, what I am looking for doesn’t exist and I should settle.”  I said, “Ryan, that is really bad advice.”  Then my son met Erin.  After their first date, I asked Ryan how it went.  He looked at me with these dreamy eyes I had never seen on him before and he said, “Mom, she is just too good to be true, she is just too good to be true.  I don’t know what she sees in me but I am going to enjoy this, I am going to enjoy her as long as she will have me.”

The next Sunday, Ryan and I were in church and Pastor Shane Holden was preaching on “Where are all the young Christian Men?”  It was a call out for young men to date in a Christian manner and then go on and be good Christian husbands.  After the service, I said to Ryan, “See, you are just as valuable to her as she is to you.”  If you win each other’s hearts you will be a blessing to each other.  Don’t sell yourself short.” You are a child of the Most High God.

Saturday September 8, 2018 we celebrated their marriage based on the cornerstone of Jesus Christ!

Praise God!!  They have an awesome beginning to the rest of their lives.

If you are dating, be inspired to date in a Christian manner. Let our Good Lord guide you.  Don’t settle or compromise yourself.  You are a child of the Most High God.

Ephesians 5:31  “ For this cause shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall be joined unto his wife and they two shall be one flesh.”
     5:32  “This is a great mystery:  but I speak concerning Christ and the church.”
     5:33  “ Nevertheless let everyone of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.”
