Healthy and Well (cardio4)
To get stronger we need to challenge ourselves. We will cover this more next week when our focus is strength. This week our focus is cardiovascular conditioning. It is endurance training. My motto is keep on keeping on!
With Cardio training the focus is to keep moving at an elevated heart rate for a prolonged period of time. We can do this by accumulating 10,000 steps a day, by going a long slow distance, or we can do intervals (push hard, slow down, push hard, rest, push hard etc.). If we want to be able to increase our abilities we have to challenge ourselves. This can be a tricky balance. If we challenge ourselves too much we can feel like it is too hard and then find ourselves in the excuse cycle again.
Think of cardio training like life training, we have to get out of our comfort zones to accomplish greater things. Even Jesus proclaimed, “ My God, My God, why have You forsaken me?” (Mathew 27:46) He did a difficult thing for the greater glory. Our bodies are His temples. We can let them deteriorate, maintain them or enforce them. Can you find the motivation today to do a little interval training? Try to add interval training to your cardio workouts one to three times a week. Be careful to not overwhelm yourself. It is better to maintain then to deteriorate.
Hebrews 12:1 “ Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.”
Be fit and be blessed,
Kimberly
PS This is the last post for this week. I am back to the firehouse tomorrow. Please pray Craig and Chan will be wise in their ways this weekend. I am forced to leave them without supervision. With Chan’s brain injury, it makes me nervous. I am trusting God.
