Fit Bit ( gaining back the weight)

Fit Bit (gaining back the weight)
Dear Kimberly,
I have lost about 70 pounds.  I have yo, yoed  for the past year up and down 20 pounds.  I would like to keep off that 20 pounds.  The difference seems to be the intensity of my workouts and my cheating a little.  How can I stay at my lowest weight?
Sincerely,
Yo, Yo Dieter.

Dear Yo, Yo Dieter,

Congratulations on loosing the bulk of your weight.  That is a major life change. You have found a balance that enables you to maintain 50 pounds off.  That is wonderful!!!  According to the College of Sports Medicine, it is better to be 25 pounds over weight and fit then it is to be at your ideal body weight and unfit.  I bring this up because maybe being at the weight you are now is OK.  It is better to be at a weight and fitness level you can maintain comfortably then it is to be continually worried about it.  You mentioned that you have backed off on the intensity of your workouts, and have started snacking a little bit more.  The simple math of you gaining 20 pounds since Christmas is approximately 300 calories a day.

A very intense hour workout can burn about 700-calories/ hour.  A walk will burn closer to 400.  There is your 300-calorie difference.

A half a cup of ice- cream is about 200 calories; a cup and a half of ice cream is about 600.  There is a 400 calories difference.

If you would like to drop that 20 pounds and keep it off you have to figure out the calorie -math and adjust your life style accordingly.  Diets don’t work, permanent life style changes do.  Make sure the life style you want for yourself is reasonable.   It is far better to be a little over weight yet, holy, healthy and happy then to be striving to keep off that last 20 pounds.

Nahum 1:7  “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knoweth them that trust in Him.”
Romans 8:2  “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.”

Be fit and be blessed,

Kimberly
