Fit Bit (internal motivation)

Fit Bit (internal motivation)
Dear Kimberly,
   At work they are starting a Fitness challenge.  I joined in.  I thought it would help me motivate to lose weight.  All it has done so far is make me feel guilty that I still lack internal motivation.  How do I get pumped up about this?  I need to lose weight.
Sincerely,
Lacking internal motivation

Dear Needing Internal Motivation,

Very rarely can something from outside us motivate us on the inside.  Sure it happens, A drunk quits drinking while s/he is scared they will lose their job or spouse, a person quits smoking when the Doctor tells them they are going to die. These fears, or external motivators can last for a little while.  In order for true change we need a true internal desire or perseverance does not come.  The only way I know to change the inside is to ask God for His help.  Pray, He can help you see your body as His temple.  Pray, He can help you moment by moment make decisions that will honor Him.

Mathews28: 20  “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world.” Amen

Each time you pick up a doughnut instead of fruit, chips instead of the vegetables, etc.… God is with you!  Listen to His ever-present voice.  Each time you make a decision in the right direction it helps you with the internal strength you need to keep on keeping on.  Most of us cannot do a change perfectly immediately, so regardless of how many times you may back slide, brush it off and keep trying.

Three basis steps for behavioral change;
1.     Make sure your behavioral change lines up with Gods’ word, post scriptures to support you, and ask for His help.
2.     Find reasons you like your new life better then your old ways and concentrate on the benefits you receive by walking the walk.
3.     Continually accept the forgiveness Jesus died to give you and keep pushing toward the mark.
If you want to have this Fitness challenge to have lasting affect on your life, concentrate on the true rewards you will receive by treating your body as His temple verse your trashcan.  (See Corinthians 6:19)

Be fit and be blessed,
Kimberly
